CALS Construction Projects in Maumelle and Sherwood Advance
The Central Arkansas Library System’s (CALS) Maumelle Library, 10 Lake Pointe Dr., Maumelle, and Amy Sanders Library, 31 Shelby Dr., Sherwood, will close temporarily to continue renovation and construction projects in November and December, respectively. The anticipated completion time for both projects is early 2018.
CALS Maumelle Library will be closed for remodeling and expansion from Monday, November 20, through early March 2018. The exact reopening date is to be determined.
The branch will be open limited hours for holds pick-up only: Wednesdays, 2:00-6:00 p.m.; Thursdays, 4:00-8:00 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Patrons may also participate in Food for Fines (November 26-December 2) during those restricted hours. For assistance, patrons may call 501-918-3000.
CALS Amy Sanders Library will close Monday, December 4, through Thursday, December 7, in preparation for the move to the new 14,500-square-foot facility located at 10200 Johnson Drive. Patrons must collect hold items by 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2. Any hold items that are not claimed will be available when the library reopens on Friday, December 8. For assistance, patrons may call 501-835-7756.
Patrons may return items to both libraries using the book drops located on the outside of the buildings.
Maumelle Library’s 1,377-square-foot addition will include five new study rooms and one additional meeting room. Space will also be made in the existing building for a children’s program room. Other features to be included in the renovation are an upgraded HVAC system, LED lighting, new interior finishes, and additional parking spaces.
Funds for the $1.954 million addition and renovation are provided through bonds issued by the Maumelle Facilities Board in December 2016.
Sherwood voters approved a 1.3 mil personal and property tax increase to issue bonds to fund a new library in November 2014. CALS broke ground on the new building earlier this year.
