To search by subject, select a database and type your desired subject in the search box. For example, if you're interested in the electoral college you would:
- Select the Masterfile Premier database (You can search as many databases as you want and several would be helpful for this topic; Masterfile Premier will be our example.)
- Type in your library card number.
- Select EBSCOhost.
- Select Masterfile Premier from the list of databases available through EBSCOhost.
- Type electoral college in the search box.
- You can limit your search by the different options listed below the search box.
- Click on the Search button.
- The middle column contains your results.
- You can narrow and limit your results with the options in the right and left columns.
- If you see a link for HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text that means you can read the full article within the database.
- You can also print, download, and email articles to yourself.
To find out if a database includes a particular title, click the Publications button near the top of the database and search for the magazine or journal title in which you are interested. For example, if you're interested in Newsweek you would:
- Select the Academic Search Elite database (Newsweek is indexed in several other databases as well; this is our example.).
- Type in your library card number.
- Select EBSCOhost.
- Deselect Masterfile Premier from the list and select Academic Search Elite from the list of databases available.
- Click on the Publications button near the top of the database opening page.
- Type Newsweek into the search box and click on the Search button.
- The record for Newsweek shows that bibliographic records are available from 1985 and full text is available from 1990. Full text means you can read the full text of the article through the database.
