Self-Checkout Stations Coming to All CALS Branches

In February 2010, the Central Arkansas Library System will begin the process of installing self-checkout stations at all CALS branches. Once installed, CALS patrons will be able to self-scan items for the purpose of checking out, renewing or paying fines (with a credit card). Fletcher Library will be the first library to have self-checkout stations installed and will be closed February 1 - 10 for the conversion process.

Upon completion of the self-check conversion process, patrons will receive the following benefits:

  • • Faster Checkout — Using the self-check process, patrons will be able to check out multiple items at one time.
  • • Increased Privacy — If patrons choose to use the self-check station they can bypass interaction with library staff, resulting in increased privacy.
  • • Improved Customer Service — Assistance from library staff will be readily available due to less time spent at circulation desks.

  • Sanders Library: February 22-27
  • Thompson Library: March 15-20
  • Dee Brown Library: March 29-April 3
  • Terry Library: April 12-21
  • Nixon Library: May 3-8
  • McMath Library: May 17-22
  • Williams Library: May 24-27

All dates are subject to change. The remaining branches will be scheduled for conversion in Fall 2010.
