CALS Begins Conversion to RFID System
The Amy Sanders Branch of the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) will be closed February 22-27 to complete conversion to a system utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. While the Sanders Branch is closed, patrons may use any other CALS location for checking out or returning items, placing or picking up holds, or computer access.
RFID technology will make the checkout process simpler and faster, allowing staff to spend more time providing customer service. Patrons choosing to do so will be able to check out at one of the new self-check stations. Additional benefits to RFID technology include enhanced security of library materials and better inventory control.
The Sanders Branch in Sherwood is the second of the 12 CALS libraries to undergo the self-check conversion process. Other branches are scheduled to go through the process throughout the rest of 2010.
