Reconsideration of Library Materials

Any resident of the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) service area who wishes to object to an item in the library’s collection or to an Internet site accessed through a library computer, must complete and sign a Request for Reconsideration of Library Material form. All complaints will be forwarded to the Executive Director, who will appoint a committee to evaluate the item in question. Committee recommendations will be sent to the Executive Director, who will make the final decision and contact the complainant as to the outcome. Appeal of the Executive Director’s decision may be made to the Board of Directors.

An appeal must be made in writing to the President of the Board of Directors within seven days of receiving the Executive Director’s decision. The Board will appoint a committee to review the item(s) in question, recommendations of the staff review committee, and the Executive Director’s reply to the complainant.

All documentation of the complaint will be retained in the Administration Office for a period of five years.
