FULL-TIME POSITIONS

INFORMATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT MANAGER – The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) in Little Rock, Arkansas, is redefining what it means to provide information to our community. If you are a motivated, visionary librarian, come lead this transition and manage our new Information Services Department, formerly the Reference Department. CALS is a growing urban library system with fourteen locations and over 200,000 cardholders. The Information Services Department Manager reports to the Head of the Main Library, and oversees the work of several divisions within the department, including Periodicals, Interlibrary Loan, Public Computer Lab, and Downloadable Library support. The successful candidate will be excited by the challenge of working in the changing environment of reference services, have a deep commitment to providing excellent service, the ability to offer strong leadership to a talented and diverse team, and be open to the possibilities that new technologies and methods can offer. Candidates must possess strong customer skills, strong problem-solving skills, an easy-going nature, and enthusiasm for working with diverse patrons and staff.

Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program. Preferred: 5 years experience in providing reference or public service to a diverse population with 3 years supervisory experience. Highly desirable: Flexibility, team orientation, an open and optimistic attitude, and a sense of humor. We offer the same. Salary negotiable from $42,000, based on experience, plus excellent benefits. YOUTH PROGRAMMER / KITCHEN SPECIALIST (LA II) – The Hillary Rodham Clinton Children's Library and Learning Center is seeking a full-time, energetic youth programmer to contribute to all programming efforts at the Children's Library, with an emphasis on the kitchen. Candidate should have experience in storytelling, working with children, and creating fun learning environments for children. Duties include programming, helping patrons and children in the library, and working with outside groups and schools. The traits we are seeking include:

  • Ability to plan and execute cooking classes for children
  • Basic knowledge of cooking and kitchen skills & ability to teach those to others
  • Willingness to try new things and an enthusiasm for helping children learn
  • Ability to plan and execute general library programs for families and children
  • Ability to work with community partners, participate in outreach
  • Ability to plan ahead & collaborate with other staff
  • Ability to organize tasks, people, and ideas
  • Ability to work within a budget
  • Ability to work with the public in a helpful and kind way
  • Knowledge of gardening is helpful

LIBRARY PAGE POSITIONS

Pages are part-time positions, sorting and shelving materials. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. Must be able to reach all shelving with aid of a kick stool. Must have some knowledge of computers.
