INFORMATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT MANAGER – Main Library. The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) is redefining what it means to provide information to our community. If you are a motivated, visionary librarian, come lead this transition and manage our Information Services Department. CALS is a growing urban library system with fourteen locations and over 200,000 cardholders. The Information Services Department Manager reports to the Head of the Main Library, and oversees the work of several divisions within the department, including Periodicals, Interlibrary Loan, Public Computer Lab, and Downloadable Library support. The successful candidate will be excited by the challenge of working in the changing environment of reference services, have a deep commitment to providing excellent service, the ability to offer strong leadership to a talented and diverse team, and be open to the possibilities that new technologies and methods can offer.
Candidates must possess strong customer skills, strong problem-solving skills, an easy-going nature, and enthusiasm for working with diverse patrons and staff. Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program. Preferred: 5 years experience in providing reference or public service to a diverse population with 3 years supervisory experience. Highly desirable: Flexibility, team orientation, an open and optimistic attitude, and a sense of humor. We offer the same. Salary negotiable from $42,000, based on experience, plus excellent benefits. LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT – Central Arkansas Library System. Full-time position. Position requires basic horticultural knowledge of proper planting of shrubs, bushes and trees, pruning of bushes and trees and general landscape maintenance of grounds and gardens at Little Rock’s Main Library and 14 branch libraries. High School diploma or equivalent, valid driver license, clean driving record, and ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor are required. Verifiable landscape maintenance experience as a crew leader for local company, supervisory experience, and basic computer skills are preferred. Salary is based on knowledge, skills, and experience and starting at $11/hour plus generous benefits. LIBRARY ASSISTANT I – Two temporary 8 week positions (June 15-Aug. 8), part-time 25 hours/week public service position in Youth Services Department and Level 4 Teen Center, Main Library. Responsibilities include checking materials in and out, answering patron questions, registering patrons for library cards, some information searching and shelving. Familiarity with technology, digital media, and excellent communication and customer service skills are required. Must be able to work well with children and teens, and cooperatively with staff and public. Knowledge of children’s literature and experience with children’s programming desirable. LIBRARY PAGE POSITIONS
Pages are part-time positions, sorting and shelving materials. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. Must be able to reach all shelving with aid of a kick stool. Must have some knowledge of computers. Evening and Saturday hours may be required for branch locations; Sunday hours may be required for Main and H.R.C.Children's Library. Contact individual location for specifics. $7.50/hr.
